Just Buffalo's mission is to create and strengthen communities through the literary arts. It has been creative, independent force for the literary arts since 1975. Programs include: Babel, an International author lecture series; Literary Buffalo, a literary event listing resource comprised of a web calendar, monthly poster and weekly e-newsletter serving all literary organizations in Western New York; Big Night, a series of poetry readings in conversation with other art forms; Studio, a series of writing workshops for adults; Writing With Light, an education program serving over 4,000 students per year in Western New York; and Wordplay, an annual publication of student writing. Just Buffalo has been designated a Primary Institution by the New York State Council on the Arts, which deemed it critical to the cultural life of New York State.
