Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site and Interpretive Center
The Walt Whitman Birthplace Association, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1949 to purchase Whitman's Birthplace from its private owner. Working in cooperation with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, the WWBA preserves and maintains the house in which the poet was born and lived for the first four years of his life. It seeks to make the poet's life and work accessible to those who visit the Birthplace through school and public programs, exhibitions, and publications.
